Name:

    RM_No_Log_Objects_In_Mailbox

Syntax

    RM_No_Log_Objects_In_Mailbox=0 / 1

Applies to:

    Servers

Add-on:

    First Release:

      6.0.3 / 6.5.3

    Obsolete since:

      Category:

        Mail

      Default:

        None

      UI equivalent:

        None

      Description:
For Mailserver which have a Router performance problem, due to High volume, there is a new ini variable in ND 6.0.5/6.5.3 which can help with performance tuning.

Setting this variable to 1 will cause all objects in the mailbox to not be included in transactional logging, and thus speed up the router process.

This setting will over ride the individual mail.box preference settings.

The RM_No_Log_Objects_In_Mailbox=1 setting in notes.ini will disable transaction logging of objects in mail.box, resulting in improved router performance when large emails are being sent. This is true only for Domino versions earlier than 8.5. Notice that if a server goes down during the routing of a large e-mail then that e-mail won't be in the transaction log for recovery.

Even if the MAIL.BOX advanced database property 'Disable Transaction Logging' is not set, when RM_NO_LOG_OBJECTS_IN_MAILBOX is enabled, the file will not be logged.

      Recommendation:
Completely remove this setting from Domino servers, versions 8.5 and higher. Significant performance improvement work has been included in D8.5 such that this option is no longer a high leverage configuration. The D8.5 DAOS feature works more efficiently with mail.box transaction logging enabled.

For Domino versions below 8.5, set RM_NO_LOG_OBJECTS_IN_MAILBOX=1 in NOTES.INI. The performance gains achieved by doing so are significant.

Starting with Domino 8.5, the benefit of this setting has been negated due to mail.box transaction logging performance improvements.
